

Margaret Clare Burt Barry, 87, of Austin, died peacefully in her sleep on October 11, 2005. Born in Parsons, KS, on October 10, 1918 to Francis King and Joseph P. Burt, Jr., Margaret spent her early years in Fort Worth and grew up in Olean, NY. She attended St. Bonaventure University before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Margaret began her teaching career during World War II in San Angelo and Carlsbad, TX, and then moved to Port Arthur where she taught English at Thomas Jefferson High School for many years. In 1942, she met John Joe Barry at a USO dance. They married in 1947, settled in Groves, and had 5 children before his untimely death in 1957. Margaret continued teaching and earned a Master of Arts degree at Lamar College in 1967. She retired in 1976 and moved to Georgetown and later to Austin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, John and Bill Barry in 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Cecilia Barry of San Antonio, Clare Barry and Peg Barry of Austin; daughter-in-law, Mary S. Barry of Fairfax, VA; six grandchildren: Joe Brockman of Houston, Regina Erwin of Round Rock, Emily and Gabby Barry-Conley of Austin, and Pat and Bob Barry of Fairfax, VA; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Austin Catholic Church followed by burial at Austin Memorial Park. Obituary and guestbook available online at wcfish.com
