Pedro is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anne, his daughters Gloria Linegar and Lydia Mudarra, Son-in-Law Brent Linegar and Grandsons Russell and Colton Linegar.
Pedro’s family moved to Miami, Florida when he was seven years old. He attended various civilian and military schools, including Airborne, Instructor Training, Signal Officers Career Course, Stress Management Training, Enforcement Officer Training and Statistical Analysis Training.
Pedro was fluent in three languages, English, Spanish and French. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Psychology in 1963, and a Master of Arts in History in 1969 from the University of Miami in Florida. He also earned a Master of Criminal Justice in Criminology and Corrections from the American Technological University in 1978. For scholastic achievement, he earned Phi Alpha Theta, National History Honorary and Alpha Phi Sigma, National Criminal Justice Honor Society.
Pedro served in the US Army for fourteen years from 1963 to 1978 and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Captain. He served his first tour in Vietnam from 1965 – 1966 as the Commanding Office of Combat Engineer Company. He was an Assistant Professor of Military Science, junior level, at the University of Miami from 1967-1969. Pedro then returned to Vietnam for his second tour from 1969 – 1970 as the Commanding Office of Signal Company which was spread over 180 miles. June to November 1970, he was the Operation Officer of the largest Signal Battalion in Vietnam. In 1970 – 1973, Pedro worked in the Pentagon as the Chief of the Army Operations Center Division, Pentagon Telecommunications Center with responsibility for worldwide communications for the Secretary of The Army, the Army Chief of Staff and the Army General Staff. In 1971, he completed a background investigation and was granted authorized access to Crypto Top Secret information.
From 1973 – 1975, he was the Aide-de-Camp Translator to the Chief of Joint Military Mission in Spain. 1976-1977, Pedro was Brigade Signal Officer of a 3000-man Armored Brigade in Fort Hood, Texas. From 1977-1978, he programmed tactical computers with enemy intelligence information at Ft. Hood, Texas.
After his Army career, he was employed at the Travis County, Texas Sheriff’s Office, Jail and Civil Section as an Adult Probation Officer, supervising approximately 410 probationers. Pedro was then employed by former Lt. Governor Bob Bullock in the Training Division for the state of Texas as an Instructor and Planning Assistant in the Research and Statistics Division. He counseled employees on psychological, financial, and family problems.
Pedro was a volunteer fireman for the Oak Hill Fire Department for many years, something he loved and was proud to be involved with. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Colombus (Faternal). Pedro was on the City of Austin Dental Health Advisory Committee, a member of the Travis County Archaeological Society, a member of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, a member of the International Good Neighbor Council, Austin Chapter. He served as President in 1987 of the IGNC. Pedro was President of the Appaloosa Run Civic Association from 1984 – 1986. He was an Arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau.
Pedro Mudarra was above all, an amazing man, who lived an amazing life. He was unique, there was no one else like him. He loved to travel, read and study, he was highly intelligent and loved to share his knowledge through teaching others. Pedro was a devout Catholic and had a deep faith in God. He will be missed by his many friends, some lifelong and a large family who loved him. Pedro will be especially missed by his three girls as he was the most wonderful and devoted husband and father.
