Pedro was born on July 5, 1949 in Tamuning, Guam to Pedro Leon Guerrero and Antonia (Terlaje) Untalan. Pedro is survived by his children/spouse (grandchildren), Peter/Sydney (Antonia, Pedro, Frances), Pia/Tommy Olafson (Lily), John Patrick/Kelly (Quinn, Kai), Meagan/John Barkett (Sadie, Maggie), and Captain Victorino T. “Champ” Untalan. He is survived by his sisters/spouse Linda Cepeda, Pauline Pangilinan, Rita/John Pangilinan and his brother/spouse David and Doris Untalan. He is additionally survived by Robin Wagner, mother of Peter and Pia, and Ann Untalan, mother of John Patrick and Meagan. He has numerous nephews and nieces. Pedro was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Torres Untalan, his father, Pedro, and his mother Antonia.
Pedro obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and was a staunch Sooner. He later obtained his Masters in Hospital Administration, which led to his dedicated, 30-year career in public healthcare on both Guam and Saipan. He served as Hospital Administrator for Guam Memorial Hospital and the Commonwealth Health Center, and he had additional leadership roles and policy making positions serving the Department of Public Health of Guam and the CNMI. He was an enthusiastic mentor and leader to upcoming generations of health leadership for Guam and the CNMI, and he was committed to the education and promotion of local healthcare providers.
He moved to Austin, Texas in 2012 to seek healthcare for his wife Elizabeth. He continued to provide support and mentorship to those in need through his work with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Austin. He took great pride in encouraging young people and his nieces and nephews to pursue their education and to achieve their maximum potential. He was known for his encyclopedic memory, love of history, and his infectious smile.
A formal funeral service is on hold for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once travel and gathering risks have been minimized, an announcement will be made for his formal service. Until that time, we thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Pedro.
