Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. Richard passed away at the age of 77, on the 20th of October surrounded by his family. He lived life as a kind, gentle and caring man. A person of very few words with a never ending reservoir of compassion, patience and love. Born in Austin on November 5, 1940 to Alton C White, Sr. and Edith Stone White.
He graduated from Austin High School in 1958 and after graduation attended The University of Texas. He worked for more than 30 years at the family business, Austin Blue Print Company and later was the head golf club repair tech for Golfsmith, Intl. At Austin High School, he was a member of the two-time State Championship Golf team. He had a love affair with golf until health issues forced him to stop playing. He was a baseball player as a kid and became an inspiring baseball coach to many youth for 15 years (1967-1982) in North Austin.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother Edith in 2002, his father Alton Sr. in 2008 and his brother Alton Jr. this past February. Richard is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Minell; his son Mike and wife Lisa and grandsons Austin and Evan of Colorado; his son Christian of Ohio and Granddaughter Kennedy of Pflugerville; his sister Patricia Keller and husband Edward Keller of Austin.
Richard’s family will receive friends from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 25th at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd.
Services for Richard will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 26th with visitation beginning at 1:30 pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home.
