Age 89
January 6, 1932 – June 7, 2021
Ramon Molina Mesa was born in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico on January 6, 1932. He was a naturalized US citizen; both parents were U.S citizens with residence in the state of Texas. His mom was in Mexico at the time of his birth. Ramon would say that he was the only one of his siblings born in Mexico.
Esperanza Saldana and Ramon were married in 1953. Esperanza was born and raised in the state of New Mexico. Esperanza and Ramon had three children: Frank, Rachel and Jesse. Ramon is preceded in death by Esperanza (who passed away on April 22, 2020) and son, Jesse.
Once married, the family resided in the central valley of California. This was an area also settled by the parents and siblings of Esperanza and Ramon. For the first 12-years, the family lived in Delano and Wasco. In the mid-1960’s, the family moved south to Pasadena where they lived until the children completed high school. In the mid 1970’s, Esperanza, Ramon, Frank and Jesse returned north to the Bakersfield joined by Frank and Jesse. Daughter, Rachel continued to reside in the Pasadena area.
For most of his life, Ramon worked in agriculture: field work, packing house and as a cotton gin mechanic. He always had a house with a large property where he could spend time gardening and his many pets & chickens.
Ramon had a tremendous love for his grandchildren and always enjoyed when they would come to visit. He enjoyed raising his chickens; a few days before his death, he proudly showed-off the 14-eggs about ready to hatch. Ramon was a fisherman, always eager for an invite to go catch some fish.
Ramon is survived by his children Rachel Garrison (Glendale, CA) and Frank Mesa (Bakersfield). He leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Ramon will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, in Bakersfield, California. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 PM. There are no graveside services.
