Shelba was born on October 13, 1936, in Antioch Township, AR, moving to Bakersfield, CA, with her family in 1947. Shelba attended Bakersfield High School, where she met her husband Pete Barron. Shelba and Pete married on June 29, 1954, and although they later divorced, they loved and raised three children together, daughters Monica and Annette; and son Russell.
Shelba was a very talented seamstress, knitter and cook. She loved sewing and made everything from square dancing outfits, to western shirts, and dresses, keeping family and friends looking stylish. She knitted more slippers than could ever be counted. She was well known for some of her specialty dishes like enchiladas, banana pudding and bread pudding. Whenever family was together, her skills in the kitchen were in high demand.
Shelba was an avid bowler for many years, competing in and winning a number of State Championships. She also enjoyed fishing, creating many fond memories with her sister Nell and girlfriends at Shaver Lake in California.
Aside from her hobbies, Shelba most enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them, and they will all miss her presence in their lives.
Shelba had three sisters, Nell, Vickie and Linda. The three sisters were very close, speaking on the phone daily and flying to see each other to spend summers together. Shelba cherished the time they spent together and her sisters will miss her dearly.
Shelba was preceded in death by her father Eldon and her mother Ruby. In addition to her sisters, she is survived by her three children Monica, Annette, and Russell, as well as eight grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield at 10:30 am. Those attending the service will be required to wear a face mask. The service will also be live-streamed by Hillcrest Memorial Park.
