Ira W. Meyer Jr.

Ira W. Meyer, Jr., 89, died, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Allen Morgan Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born, August 23, 1922, in Louisville, KY, Ira was a veteran of World War II serving three years aboard the U.S Hospital Ship Marigold. He married his sweetheart, Beth, in 1946 and graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy, in 1948. He retired from Ayerst Laboratories in 1986 after serving 38 years in Pharmaceutical sales. He was an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church and served 32 years with the Gideon's International Ministry, placing Bibles in the highways and by-ways of life. He and Beth would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on February 22, 2012. Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife, Beth; his children, Chris and Steve Brandon of Memphis, Rev. Keith and Renee Meyer of Port Arthur, TX; and Carol Meyer of Cordova; five grandsons, Stephen Brandon, Evan Brandon, Christopher Brandon, Paul Meyer, and Ryan Meyer; and 5 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, from 12 - 2 p.m., on Wednesday, February 8. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to The Gideon’s International P.O. Box 34714 Bartlett, TN 38184.
