Larry W. Stranz, 78, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria, Illinois. He was born on September 11, 1939 in Peoria County, Illinois to Wilbur J. and Mayme (Pedze) Stranz. He married Patricia Seffer on October 6, 1962 in Peoria, Illinois. She survives.
He has two daughters surviving, Christine Williams of Peoria, Illinois and Deana Stranz of Tucker, Georgia; five grandchildren, Madison, Brody, Brayden, Bryson and McKenna Williams; one sister, Loraine (Duane) Schleder of Pekin, Illinois. He has one niece, Mardee (Tom Flaherty) Mason and one nephew, Lonn Schleder of Pekin, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Mae Mason.
Larry worked as an electrician at Keystone Steel and Wire Company and Hiram Walker Distillery. He last worked as the facilities manager for the Peoria County Courthouse, retiring in 2001. Larry was a graduate of Limestone Community High School and attended Bradley University. He was a member of the IBEW Electricians Union and a former board member of the Peoria Airport Authority and Springdale Cemetery. He was very involved within Limestone Township and Limestone Community High School, where he had been a scorekeeper and coach for over 50 years. Larry was a three-time inductee of the Limestone Sports Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Neve Harms Meritorious Service to Sports Award in the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame. As an avid sports fan, he loved attending his grandchildren’s games and cheering on his Chicago Cubs and Bears, watching his lifetime dream come true during the 2016 World Series. (GO CUBS GO!) He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
A funeral mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday, June 21, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Father David Heinz will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4pm until 7pm at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel and 30 minutes prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorials may be made to the Limestone Community High School Athletic Booster Club, St. Anthony Catholic Church or TAPS.
