Shirley M. Harken

Bartonville – Shirley M. Harken, 90, of Peoria, formerly of Bartonville, passed away at 5:23 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2021 at her home. She was born on December 3, 1930 in Springfield, a daughter of Grover and Dorothy (Hogarth) Cawley. She married Warner L. Harken on June 25, 1949 in Bartonville. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1999 in Peoria.

Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Milo “Bill” Morris; step-mother, Ann Cawley; son, David Harken; three grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lori Harken; sister, Rosetta Harms; stepbrother, Charles “Chuck” Pendergrass; and stepsister, Betty Schwab.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven (Sherry) Harken of Peoria and Raymond Harken of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughter-in-law, Valerie Harken of Bartonville; four grandchildren, Josh (Kelly) Harken of Peoria, Sarah (Jared) Godbey, Aaron Harken, and Jacob Harken, all of Cedar Rapids, IA; and seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Alexander, Mason, Eliza, Oakley, Eastyn, and Lincoln.

Shirley was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville and the Limestone American Legion Post #979 Auxiliary. She loved reading, bingo, crocheting, bowling, embroidery, traveling, and needlework.

Shirley’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. also on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church or a charity of donor’s choice.
