

Sammy Lee Richardson, Sr., 66, of Fieldale, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born in Rockingham County, March 7, 1946 to Charlie Bill Richardson and Bessie L. Goins Richardson. Prior to his retirement, he operated R & D Lawn care and had also worked for Bassett-Walker Knitting and Pluma where he was Maintenance Supervisor. Sam was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and also taught pre-school Sunday School. He was very involved in fundraisers for Fieldale Community Center where he conducted barbecues and stews. He had also been a member of Hayes Jewelers Modified Racing Team and Richardson Racing-Go Cart Team which included trips all over the East Coast and two WKA State Championships (VA\NC) and one WKA National Asphalt Championship
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Richardson Harris and Clovis Jane Richardson and one brother, John Richardson.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine S. Richardson of the residence; one daughter, Amy Richardson Martin of Martinsville; one son, Sammy Lee Richardson, Jr. of Fieldale; six sisters, Lottie B. Hickman and Peggy J. Richardson, both of Stoneville, NC; Lucille R. Vaughn of Mayodan, NC; Carolyn Atkins of Lawsonville, NC; Jenny Richardson of Eden, NC and Janice Chambers of Winston Salem, NC; two brothers, Charlie J. Richardson of Mayodan, NC and Randall L. Richardson of Bassett; seven grandchildren, Clinton Blankenship, Austin Blankenship, Allen Michael Martin, Kimberlyn Richardson, Brooklyn Martin, Michael Wayne Martin, Jr. and Olivia Day Clark.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating.
