Rev. Jerry L. Johnson of Baton Rouge passed away on May 7, 2021. He was 75. He was born on September 9, 1945, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Jerry enjoyed stellar careers working as a merchandising manager for Montgomery Ward and as a sales manager for Xerox. He later started Johnson Company to provide training and consulting for businesses helping improve productivity. He worked with small companies, including Fortune 500 corporations. He attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and earned a master’s degree in Divinity from Southern Methodist University. In 1998, Jerry answered God’s call and left his business to enter into ministry as a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He served as pastor of Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton, Louisiana, from 1998 to 2006. He served as an associate pastor at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge from 2006 to 2007, and served as senior pastor of Walker United Methodist Church from 2007 to 2009. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Johnson; daughters, Scarlett Hunt and Tammy Bingear; a son, Shannon Johnson; and granddaughters, Kate Killian-Johnson and Peyton Shepherd. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roy and Lelia Johnson; his sisters, Jacquelyn Price, Joy Choate, Jean Rutz, and Patricia Bradley; and his brothers Roy Johnson and Donnie Johnson. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to First Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, the Salvation Army, the Baton Rouge Food Bank, or any other charity of your choice.
