

Russ Evan Hernandez, native of Baton Rouge and resident of Walker, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the age of 30. Though his time here was short, Russ impacted the lives of many and his impeccable work ethic allowed him to accomplish many goals. He was a 2003 graduate of Redemptorist High school. During his time here, he was a part of the 2002 State Championship football team and 2003 Weightlifting team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for the Baton Rouge Police Department, where he “received several letters of commendation” and made a lasting impression on his fellow officers and supervisors. He was a loving father, son, brother, fiancé, nephew who is survived by his children, Johnathon “Bentz” Borne, Breanna Renee Hernandez, Hudson James Hernandez, and Evan Luke Hernandez; father, Ed Austin Hernandez and stepmother, Judy Phillips Hernandez; brother, Marcus Austin Hernandez; sister, Laura Rachel Hernandez; fiancé, Mickey Delores Young; godfather, Gene Austin Hernandez, Jr., paternal grandmother, Eddie Jean Arinder Hernandez; nieces and nephews, Brianna Elaine Rackley, Markai Royce Reed, Brodielyn Grace Hernandez; uncle, James Brett Smith and godmother, Gracie Hernandez Smith; aunt, Emma Jean Hernandez Talent; cousins, Kristen Smith Stringfellow and Charles Brett Smith; and honorary mom, Nancy Simon McBeth and nephew, Luke Austin Allen. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gene Austin Hernandez, Sr. and great grandmother, Grace B. Kenney. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Dr. BR, LA 70816) from 4pm-7pm and will resume on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 2pm until funeral service at 2:30pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: (friends) Josh Wilson, Robby Cannon, Chuck Smith, Tyler Prescott (officers) Jordon Lear, Kirt Allen, Josh Barnett, and Jake Wheat. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan “Bentz” Borne, the entire Baton Rouge Police Department and the 2002 RHS State Championship Football Team and coaching staff.
