Peter Lee Currie, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with the Lord December 10, 2023. Pete was born on June 20, 1932 in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania to Sarah and Patrick Currie after their immigration to America from Scotland. He spent his childhood years in Kearny and North Arlington, New Jersey. After graduating from Queen of Peace High School, Pete went on to Newark College of Engineering to attain his Bachelor’s degree.
It wasn’t long before the South beckoned him to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a job at Allied Chemical Company, where he met his future wife, Jeannine. The couple married in 1958 and welcomed their first child, Cathleen, in 1961. After accepting a new position with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), Pete and his family moved to Pasadena to begin what would be the first of many years in Texas. They bought their first home in Baytown and soon welcomed their second daughter, Julia Ann. Pete enjoyed a long and successful career as a chemical engineer, working many years for ARCO and completing his career at Advanced Aromatics.
Pete was a life-long learner and always maintained many interests, including reading, studying history and playing bridge and other card games. He loved spending time on the golf course and passed the enjoyment of the game on to his daughters. Numerous family vacations involved playing a fun round of golf with Jeannine and the girls. In his more recent years, he took great interest in researching his family ancestry and gathering regularly for breakfast with former co-workers and other friends. He never lost his keen sense of humor or talent for telling stories, especially of his childhood days, and could remember events in colorful detail. Pete was very faithful to his church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baytown, participating in volunteer opportunities there, and had a special heart for the mission of the church’s associated school.
Pete is survived by his wife, Jeannine Wilson Currie, his two daughters, Cathy Currie, and Julie Overshiner (Ken), his three grandchildren, Sarah Jones (Trevor), Andrew Overshiner, and Jennifer Overshiner, and his brother Michael Currie (Lyn).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Sarah Currie, and his sister, Susan Rita Currie.
Services celebrating Pete’s life will be held at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Visitation will be held at 10am, followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 11am. A reception thereafter will be held in the parlor from noon to 1:30pm. The burial service will take place at Sterling-White Cemetery in Highlands at 2:30pm, and all family and friends are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Joseph Catholic School in Baytown, TX.
The family would like to thank all those involved in carrying out the services honoring Pete’s life, and all of the family members and friends who have encouraged and prayed for us during this time.
