Margaret “Bussie” Lonker Daniel, 92, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021. Born into and during the Great Depression, to the late Johnny and Bernie Vealey Lonker on October 26, 1928. She always said that hers was the most interesting and colorful life and part of history of the United States, Croatia and West Virginia. Born and raised in Pettrey Bottom on Coal River in Raleigh County. Her best friend and older sister, Anna Ruth Lonker Milam preceded her in death on March 11, 2020. Margaret was a self-employed business woman; a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Naoma Methodist and the First United Methodist Church on S. Heber Street, Beckley; she worked for the West Virginia State Road Commission, Raleigh County Office, Raleigh County Clerk’s Office, and the Raleigh County Board of Education where she retired. She was a 1947 graduate of Marsh Fork High School. She was involved in Community, State, and Federal activities. She was a member of the Young Dem. Club, Democrat Club and Democrat Women’s Club, a founding member of Orchard Valley Woman’s Club, Degree of Honor Protective Association and Officer of Lodge 56, Beckley Club. She served as a Board Member of the Lillian James Learning Center, and a former member of the Raleigh County WV Adopt a Highway Program. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Sharon K. Daniel-Norman; son-in-law of Prince, WV, Marshall Lee Norman; sisters; Shelba Lonker Bradford of Navarre, FL and Nancy Lonker Workman, brother-in-law, Thurman Workman of Charleston, WV (who was like a brother) and Theresa Lonker of St. Albans; granddaughters, Eliza Ballard and husband, Jason and Angela Hodges and husband, Dewayne; great-grandchildren, Issac, Garrett, Theron, and Kaylee Ballard; nephew, Johnathan Workman and wife, Kelly; grand-nieces, Ashley and Allison Workman; niece, Kelli Bradford Swim and husband, Bobby; grandniece, Kaila Scumachi; special friends, Priscilla Garrett-Quinones, Gerrianne Simmons, Georgia Slygh and DOH 56 members, Leisa and Jack Bostic and Sherry Richmond. Special Thanks to Hospice and the nurse assistant, Darlene, Ashley, and to Dr. Kelly Pittsenbarger. Special, special love and appreciation to Josh and Brandon Flint for all they did, it will never be forgotten. Services to celebrate the life of Margaret “Bussie” Lonker Daniel will be held 2:00PM Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Betsy Evans Ingstrup and Dr. Bob Stoddard officiating. Following the services Margaret will be laid to rest at the Pettrey Cemetery, Naoma. For those who wish, the Funeral Service will be LIVE via Blue Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens' Facebook page beginning at 1:55PM. Friends may gather with the family from 1:00PM until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. In keeping with the current mandates issued by the Governor of WV, facial coverings must be worn and social distancing must be followed for the safety of all in attendance.
