Alice Kathelene Midyett Paramore (Wasylina) was born in Breckenridge, Texas to Wilson Monroe Midyett and Annette Vernon Midyett on July 12, 1944. Alice was admitted to Methodist Hospital on September 30, 2020 and died on January 12, 2021.
Alice attended Texas Women’s University and graduated with a degree in nursing. She was a Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist, Paramedic and through her business ‘Nursing Consultants’ an educator for physicians, nurses and paramedics.
Alice married Paul Wasylina, a unique Catholic Ukrainian Cowboy, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Houston, Texas on October 22, 1983. They compromised and blended their families, choosing to have no stepchildren, only children of their hearts. Theirs was a marriage based in love and honesty.
Through Paul’s passion for cooking and family history, the family learned to make Ukranian foods like Varenyky (Pierogi) and Halupki (Holishkes). They spent many summers at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio, Texas demonstrating Pysanky (the art of Ukrainian egg decorating) and introducing Texans to Ukrainian cuisine.
Alice was an active church member of the Methodist Church. Later, she joined St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and was Ordained as a Deacon and Commissioned as a Stephen Minister and Leader.
Alice was a member of the American Heart Association, Houston Rose Society, and the American Rose Society. Alice also served on the National CPR/ACLS committee and in the Houston Community as a CPR and ACLS Instructor, and Instructor Trainee for 30 years where she was an Affiliate Faculty Member.
Alice was especially thankful to Bill and Lois Wilson and Family and she was honored to be part of their fellowship for almost 29 years.
She will be missed for her quest to complete the family genealogy for her descendants, love of reading and crafting, passion for civil causes, and her fascination with elephants. Mostly, she will be missed for her capacity to love those around her unconditionally.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Paul Anthony Wasylina, her parents, the father of her children, Larry Wayne Paramore, and her beloved son, John Michael Paramore in 2010. Alice leaves behind a legacy of children: John Paul Wasylina, Robert Anthony Wasylina (Tamra), Felicia Arlene Wasylina Byrd (Daniul), Kathelene Ann Paramore Weiss (Richard), Jeffery Philip Wasylina, Jason Michael Wasylina (Danielle) and Lori Michelle Paramore Younggren (Tracy). Grandchildren are Dakota Rue Wasylina, Daniul Lee Byrd, Christopher Michael Byrd, Zachery Wayne Younggren, Z Younggren and Tristian Michael Wasylina and three great-grandchildren.
The family appreciates the loving friendship and support of Dan Weber, Lynn Brown, Lois Bunton, Santos Hernandez, Kristy Clark, Carol Adams, and Tanesha Bracy. The extraordinary care given by Doctors Elie Saber, Patricia Salvato and Joanne Oakes was greatly appreciated.
