March 1, 1925 – July 17, 2018
Ann Eichelberger Bennett, age 93, died in her home in Houston, Texas, early in the morning on July 17, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was blessed to have been survived by all six of her children: Diane Grace and Patricia Keel, both of Houston; her daughter MaryAnn and spouse, Derek Selva, of Dickinson; Harold Wayne Bennett II and spouse Shari of New Braunfels; Robert John Bennett and spouse Diana of Puerto Rico; and Michael Bruce Bennett and spouse Allison, of St. Augustine, FL. In addition, she was blessed with twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Ann was born on March 1, 1925 in Lake Charles, LA, to parents Orion Eichelberger and Aímee Barbe Goudeau. She worked at Methodist Hospital as an LVN for 28 years until her retirement in 1990. Known for her love of the fabric arts, if you have a Christmas stocking she knitted for you...you were truly loved. She knitted almost every day and was a master at figuring out the patterns her daughters presented her. A passionate fan of football and baseball and a fierce card shark. She was an intense bridge player and thrilled to play both duplicate and contract bridge. A keeper of journals like her father, she enjoyed creating journals of all her adventures, including trips to Egypt, Trinidad, Barbados, Greece, Colombia, as well as cruises across the Caribbean and up to Alaska.
There have been countless additional members of our family whom she adopted through her unquestioning love and support. All of these people, without exception, have warmed our hearts and lives with their appreciation of her, saying, “She always made me feel like family. I was welcomed. I was fed. I was given a safe place to stay if I needed it. She was there for me when I really needed it. I will love her forever.”
Our mother was an exceptional woman. She loved with her whole heart, regardless of gender, color, or creed. She accepted and adopted all children of God who came to her. We will honor and respect her through eternity by the words we speak, the actions we take, and the examples we follow.
She was our mother, friend, supporter, collaborator, muse...someone you could count on no matter what. We shall ever count on her to create our places in Heaven, where the cards will be hot and the beverages cold.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the near future. All are welcome to attend.
The family would like to thank hospice for their sincere care and assistance.
Flowers can be sent to Diane Grace.

Patricia & all the family, Ann was a wonderful friend to my Mom, Priscilla Myers. They had many happy times together, countless bridge games & so many laughs.
I bet they are back together having fun, as my Mom passed away 5 days after Ann. Love & hugs to all,

A wonderful woman who was truly caring and giving. Ann always made me feel right at home and I totally admired how she raised six children on her own. Ann was what Simone Mason called a REAL MOM. My love and condolences to the entire Bennett family who I think as my family too. Monique (and Khali)
