June 2, 1934 – September 9, 2010
I was born on June 2, 1934 as a fourth generation Catholic and grew up in a small, predominantly Catholic village, Majiwada, near Bombay, (later became Mumbai) of the Maharashtra State of India. My father, Angelo Philip Ver, and my mother, Mary Herman D’Souza, were married and had five children one boy and four girls. I was the youngest. All my siblings passed away at early ages.
My mother was almost illiterate and my father had some reading and writing education. My mother taught me the Lord’s Prayer when I was three years old. My father, Angelo Philip Ver died at the age of 33 when I was 4 months old. My mother, Mary Herman D’Souza, died several years later.
Christianity is a minor religion in India. In Majiwada there was no school, no church or stores. Boys including my brother went to the school in Thana city one and half miles away. Girls were not allowed. Majiwada was separated from the city by one mile. The residents of twenty five homes, mostly Catholics were rice growers. By the grace of God a one room school was opened in Majiwada in 1940, I was six years old. It was the start of my education. The Majiwada school was only for four grades.
My education, research, marriage and my becoming a scientist was all an intervention of God in my life. God has planned my life. It was a long shaky road with frequent ups and down. However, I saw Jesus in downsides and He showed me the upward way. Just imagine how a village born Catholic from a one room school to the most scholastic Government Girls’ high school and St. Xavier’s college receiving a B. Sc. degree. I attended the Haffkine Institute, one of the most prestigious research institutes in India, and received my M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Bombay in 1965.
My entire education in India enabled me to come to the US as a post doctoral fellow. I moved to the United States in 1965 as a post doctoral fellow to research with Dr. Melnik at the Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Virology and Epidemiology.
On Palm Sunday in the year 1969, I met my husband, Frederick Lipps at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. It was love at first sight. Fred and I were married on July 3, 1969 in St Paul’s Methodist Church. Our marriage was a good marriage for a period of 35 years. He passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004. If I have to describe my husband in one sentence, it would be as follows: “Fred was a brilliant, intellectual, tall, handsome man, God fearing and loving man.”
In 1991, with my physicist husband, Frederick Lipps, we founded a small biotechnology company, Ophidia Products, Inc. We were jointly awarded many US and International patents. By the grace and blessing of God, His plan for me becoming a scientist was fulfilled.
I believe and I am convinced that all my discoveries of therapeutic diagnostics are blessing from the Almighty. These are God’s discoveries made through me. God chose me to make these discoveries for therapeutic diagnostics to improve human health. The Almighty knew each discovery before it was discovered by me, and it was a joy in my heart that I was directed and guided by Jesus who chose to make me an indirect healer. The Therapeutics discovered are as follows: ADESH, Treatment for Neurological Disorders, Oxynor Mitogen for Wound Healing (US Patent 7,129,334 B2), Amazing Molecule: Lethal Toxin Neutralizing Factor (LTNF), Atroporin (AT) and Kaoutree (KT) for Cancer Therapy: (US patent 5,565,431 1996) and Saliva Test for Early Diagnosis of Cancer, RNA Virus Inhibitor: RVI, DNA Virus Inhibitor: Herp, Immunoglobulin E: Novel Peptide to lower its Concentration of IgE, In Vitro Assay for Toxins from Animal, Plant and Bacteria.
I believe in the Holy bible whole heartedly and I think and believe that the bible is a factual history. I accept the miracles because of my faith. I have no doubts about God’s ability. God created the Universe and Adam and Eve to propagate the earth.
