Joyce Fischer VICTORIA, TX – Joyce Marlene Fischer, 70, of Victoria TX and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada passed away April 29, 2021. She was born September 6, 1950 in Radway, Alberta to the late Robert and Anne Smith of Redwater, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband Charles (Chuck) Fischer of Victoria TX, son’s Robert [Tammy] and David [Arlene] Holt, daughter Anita [Kelly] Kresak, stepson Douglas [Janine] Fischer, and stepdaughters Jennifer [Matt] Stanfield, Sarah [Greg] Witholt and Erin [Tommy] Fischer. Joyce also leaves behind sisters Donna Kuefler, Anna-May Woodley and Evadene Shipclark; brothers Dwayne Smith and Maurice Smith; sisters-in-law Mary Jackson, Barbara Mabry and Cindy Egg; brothers-in-law Mark Fischer and Dan Fischer; ex-husband Reuben Holt; 11 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce had a very full and rewarding life. She graduated Valedictorian at Redwater High School and was later named Redwater Citizen of the Year. Early on in her career she was an EMT, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and was a Nurse and Nursing instructor. After meeting her second husband Chuck in 1988, she worked as a bookkeeper alongside him at his business locations in Edmonton, in the Turks and Caicos Islands (1997 to 2000), in Oklahoma City (2000-2007), and on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands where they owned a resort (2007-2017). In 2017 they moved to Victoria in south Texas to be closer to family.

Throughout all these travels, Joyce and Chuck maintained a home in Edmonton which was close to where Joyce grew up and many of her family and friends resided. They traveled there many times per year in their own aircraft as Chuck is an avid pilot. Joyce lived for the time she was able to spend with her family, and holiday get-togethers were always noisy and fun-filled times. She was a gourmet cook and found no more joy than bringing everyone together. Joyce was also fond of her puppies and they rarely left her side.

As a final gesture, Joyce made her greatest gift by donating her body to medical science. The family wishes to extend thanks to the wonderful staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX who worked tirelessly to provide her excellent care and keep her comfortable at the end. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The University of North Texas, Willed Body Program, 3500 Camp Bowie Blvd, Ft Worth TX 76107. Timing for a memorial will be announced at a later date.

Our thoughts & prayers are with Chuck and his family at this difficult time. We had the pleasure to chat with Joyce a few times in our lobby while waiting to depart with Chuck on another adventure. She was always accompanied by Pepper & Coco their beloved dogs. Joyce seemed like such a lovely person. Rest in Peace.
