Sr. Mary Frances Boddeker, O.P. (Fran) entered eternal life on June 16, 2018. Sr. Fran, the daughter of the late Julia deStiguer “Disty” and Alden Xavier “Ax” Boddeker, was born in Houston on May 20, 1929. She is preceded in death by her sister Edme Barth. She is survived by her sisters Sally Ogden of Plano, Nancy Blais of Wimberly, and Betsy Boddeker of Friendswood, and by devoted nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Following graduation from St. Agnes Academy, Sr. Fran began college at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio where she studied for a year followed by a semester at the University of Houston before joining the Dominican Sisters of Houston on February 15, 1950. She earned a B.A. from Dominican College and an M. ED from Our Lady of the Lake. Always updating her education, she studied at Aquinas Institute (St. Louis) and participated in many classes offered by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Sister served in education ministry at St. Peter the Apostle, Assumption, St. Christopher, and St. Augustine (Houston); Sacred Heart and O’Connell Jr. High (Galveston); St. Austin in Austin—principal; St. Mary in Taylor—principal. Other ministries were as Administrator of Newman Hall, a residence for women students at the University of Texas (Austin) and as registrar St. Agnes Academy.
She was elected to the General Council of the congregation where she served six years. Among her last active ministries was a favorite—supporting the congregation’s school in Guatemala. Each donation was carefully accounted for, and a hand-written, personal note sent to each donor.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, her ready smile, and her generous gift of self to community, family and friends.
Services: Afternoon prayer to receive her body at St. Dominic Villa at 4:00 p.m. on June 19; Wake at 7:00 p.m. also on June 19; Mass of Christian Burial on June 20, at 10:30 a.m.
All these services are at St. Dominic Villa on the grounds of the Motherhouse: 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, 77021. Interment at 1:00 p.m. June 20 at Forest Park Lawndale. In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of Houston or Guatemala Mission Fund, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77021.
