Walter Ben Treybig Jr. of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018. Born March 17, 1926 in Wharton County, Texas, he was the eldest of Walter and Henrietta Treybig’s three sons. After graduating from high school, Walter moved to New York City to pursue a career on the stage. When duty called, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He then went on to join the U.S. Marines Corp serving in Korea as platoon commander of the 75th recoilless rifles with the Anti-Tank Company, Fifth Marines. After serving his country, Walter attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Gas and Petroleum Engineering. Upon graduation, Walter returned to New York City working as an engineer with Stone & Webster. In 1951, Stone & Webster purchased an oil & gas company and he was transferred to Houston in 1952. On June 18, 1955, Walter married the love of his life, Gladys Marie Kallas and they quickly grew their family of two to six, welcoming two sons and two daughters between 1956 and 1961. After a 40-year career, Walter retired from Stone & Webster as an Executive Vice President and spent the next 15+ years assisting his wife Gladys with her successful estate sale business, playing many rounds of golf as a member of Riverbend Country Club and enjoying time with his family at their river house on the San Bernard River. Walter was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where he attended Sunday services for over 50 years. Walter was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3910 and a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Walter is preceded in death by his beloved wife Gladys and his brothers Lawrence and Leland. He is survived by his four children Walter (Trey) Treybig III and his wife Cindy, Michele Bernard, Tessie Dorr and her husband Frank and John Treybig and his wife Ingrid as well as eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Josh, Clark, Ashley, Zach, Whitney, John, Taylor, Lexi, Kendra, Knox, Parker and Missy.
