With her commitment and countless hours devoted to educating children, Elena's life was too brief. We will always be grateful for the time we did have with her. Somewhere in the Seattle area there is a chess class being held, a direct result of Elena's 20-some years of dedication teaching chess to school children. Elena chose to teach in deference to a career as a world chess champion, this was her commitment, and it took countless hours of her time. Her life will be honored every time one of her students (or a former opponent) recall a lesson taught by Elena.

Elena, we will miss you forever. You were so special in every way. You touched so many souls and taught so many children how to be better persons via learning how to play chess. You were a devoted mother to your children and remarkable wife to your husband. Our deepest condolences to your family you loved so much. Scott and Anna Slifer

Thank you Elena. You changed the lives of all of our children, but most of all you changed Spencer's life. He was so young when you met but still you believed in him and nurtured his dream. Spencer will forever carry all that you taught him, and all that you gave him, in his heart. We are honored that you shared your life with us. All of our thoughts and prayers are with Georgi, Nicholas and Donna. We will miss you so very much. Spencer, Matthew, Colin, Riley, Tom and Cathy Lehmann
