Lou Adkins passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning March 13, 2011 at his home in Paramount. Lou had been battling lung cancer since June 2010. Lou was born June 18, 1931 in Davin, West Virginia to Odbert and Olive Adkins and was the oldest of 15 children. Like most people from this part of West Virginia, Lou grew up in a coal mining family and like his father and brothers, began working there at an early age.

After graduating from Mann High School, Lou enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country for 20 years. He retired in 1969 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Lou was a Korean War Veteran who spent 2 ½ years in a POW camp before being released and returned to the states for continued duty. In 1954. He met Eleanor (Norie) Miku and they were married July 27th 1957. Together they had four children and lived a typical Air Force life until Lou’s retirement from the service in 1969. At that point he and Norie settled in Paramount where Lou was employed as an Operations Manager for Northrop Electronics in Hawthorne. Lou loved four things most; his wife, his family, his country and his local community. He coached baseball and basketball for years in the City of Paramount when the kids were young; served as Commander of American Legion Post 134 and as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Paramount.

Lou is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norie, daughter Bonnie De Jong (Clayton) of Long Beach, son Scott (Cheryl) of Huntsville, Alabama, son Patrick (Kim) of La Mirada and son Michael of Paramount. Lou is also survived by ten grandchildren whom he adored.

Tyler, Blake, Chase, Tera, Scott Jr., Samantha, Chad, Ryan, Kaylee and Patrick Jr.

Lou will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be sent to the City of Paramount 16400 Colorado Ave. Paramount, California 90723. A memorial fund is being established in Lou’s name and will be used to helped children in the city of Paramount.

I'm really missing you Daddy. I find myself at my home or in the car just breaking down in tears thinking of you. It's gonna hit me hard on Mondays when we used to pull weeds and talk about everything before basketball and have supper together. You had a hard life and did so much with it. I'm especially glad that you prayed the prayer of faith with me, and I know that we'll see one another in Heaven. I'll always be proud of you.
Love, Paddy

May God comfort your family during this difficult time. Lou will always be remembered for his jovial spirit and his happiness he always shared with others. He always had that joke in his back pocket and enjoyed sharing a laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, with deepest condolences.
