Obituary of Louise DeCandia
Louise DeCandia, 88, of Beverly Hills, Florida and formerly Commack, New York passed peacefully on August 3, 2022 surrounded by her family. Louise was born in Brooklyn and never tired of telling stories of her childhood, in part because her memory was amazing and never failed her. Growing up in Brooklyn, a proud daughter of Italian immigrants with five sisters and two brothers, led to a lifetime of wonderful memories and stories. She graduated Central Needle Trades High School and had a life-long pursuit to create by sewing, knitting, or making crafts. She always said that if she was a man she would be a carpenter, but her sweaters, baby booties and scarves are legendary. Her 13-year employment at Met Life allowed her to enjoy many Broadway shows and movies in NYC and summer vacations in the Catskill Mountains with friends. Marriage, children, and moving to the suburb of Commack Long Island followed where she raised her family and tended her garden. Retirement then transplanted her to Florida where she continued her collection of bird and bell figurines, was active in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary Post 10087, played bingo with friends, and enjoyed puzzles and classic movies at home. Her favorite pastime was always cooking and spending time with family at big Italian holiday gatherings, especially Christmas Eve, which created lifelong memories for all of her family. She was a force to be reckoned with in Uno games, which she played often with her three grandkids, who she adored. Louise is preceded in death by her husband Bob; parents, Pietro and Anna; her brothers Anello (Lee) and Pete and her sister Ann. She is survived by her sons Robert (Louise) and Peter; grandchildren PJ, Adrianna, and Andrew; her sisters Betty, Lucy, and Marie; many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. Louise was a devoted wife, mom, and grandmother. Services will be held at Fero Life Celebration Lodge, 5955 N. Lecanto Hwy., Beverly Hills, FL 34465 Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Fero Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please plant a butterfly bush in your garden and consider donating to your local Veteran’s organization.
