His wife of 38 years, Lori, was with him when he passed. Tom had battled health issues for several years, and was recovering when he succumbed to treatment.
Tom was born January 5, 1952, to Donald and Lavina Setter (Youngs), who predeceased him. Tom’s first wife, Patrice Emmendorfer (Chaulklin), also predeceased him.
Tom is survived by his wife Lori, and three children; Denae M. Setter (by his first wife), Donald J. Setter (Dawn), and Laura J. McDonald (Gary), and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by an extended family of two brothers, a sister, and several nieces and nephews, as well as friends in both Michigan and Florida.
He was born in Waterford, and lived in Livingston County before moving with his family to Portland, Michigan.
Tom retired from GM after 30 years of service. Shortly after retiring, He and Lori, along with their youngest child Laura, moved down to Citrus County, Florida; citing Tom’s dislike of cold weather, and claiming he “had yet to find a shovel that fit his hands.”
Aside from his family, his loves included fishing, creating stained glass art panels, playing cards with friends, and working outside on the “mini farm” he and Lori owned in Pine Ridge for her horses.
Though he never caught “the big one,” he could tell great fish stories with the best of them. His stained glass created a beautiful legacy of work. And his tactics at card playing are legendary, if not exasperating, for his partner and competitors alike.
He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren dearly. He will be greatly missed. A memorial celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 12 pm - 3pm, on Saturday, March 30th, at Fero Funeral Home, 5955 North Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, FL (refreshments will be served).
A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated in Michigan, with details to follow.
Memorial donations in memory of Tom can be made to Fund a Life, PO Box 406, Brighton MI, 48116 (www.fundalife.org).
