Louis R. Basile

May 25, 1933January 28, 2019

Binghamton - Louis Ralph Basile, 85, passed away on January 28, 2019. He was born in Tortorici, Sicily, but lived most his life in Binghamton. After a short time in the Air Force, Louie was employed at Universal Instruments, where he excelled as a mechanical genius, having earned 6 patents in his name for machinery innovation. He dedicated his entire life to his family and friends, known as "Big Hearted Lou", always the most generous and giving person to those he loved. Louie loved to hunt, was quite the handy man, and played many sports, particularly baseball, softball and ice hockey in an over 50 men's league. He was an avid Miami Dolphins and New York Yankees fan. Louie was a proud member of the "Italian Lunch Bunch". He loved his pets, especially his hunting dogs, his cat Tabitha and all the grand dogs in the family. He is survived by his four daughters, Julia Basile, Alisa Lykens, Theresa Kraemer and Maria Moore, and their spouses, and five grandchildren, Laura and Marissa Lykens, Justin and Dylan Kraemer, and Cassandra Moore. He is also survived by his other "daughter" Deb Dekar, his God-daughter Rose Brigiotta McNierney, and first cousins Francesca Palazzolo Ochoa, Luisa Smeitana, and Luce Palazzolo. Viewing will be held on Friday February 1st from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a service at 7:00pm at James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson. Burial services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 am at Calvary Cemetery, Binghamton/Johnson City.
