She was born on August 15, 1935, to the late William Daniel and Evelyn Hassler in Pratt City. They attended Pratt City Baptist Church. She later attended Ensley High School where she met Kenneth Ray Couch. After graduating from high school she attended Business College and then went to work for GMAC.
After Kenneth came back from his enlistment with the Marine Corp, Alice and he were married on May 7, 1955 at Pratt City Baptist Church until Dad passed away on Oct. 25th 2010. They raised two children in Forestdale, Alabama where they attended Hillview Baptist Church. Alice had a true servant’s heart and was more than happy to give of herself, whether it was to the community or her church. The greatest gift she gave her children, along with her husband, was introducing them to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
After retirement in 1996, Alice and Kenneth moved to North Shelby County and were members of Lakeside Baptist Church. After Kenneth passed away on October 25, 2010, Alice lived at home until moving to Huntsville, Alabama in February of 2018 to be closer to her son. In October of 2018 she moved to Daphne, Alabama to be closer to her daughter and remained in Baldwin County until her death.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Daneve (Blake) Neal of Daphne, AL; her son, Michael (Ut Thuy) Couch of Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by two siblings, Marian Wright of Dothan, AL; and Dan Hassler of Birmingham, AL.
Funeral services will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 11:00 am with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum.
