Ellen B. Gafnea

November 9, 1921December 1, 2011

Gafnea, Ellen Blalock went to be with her Lord on December 1, 2011. She was born on November 9, 1921. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and teacher. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, James D. Gafnea, her parents, Clyde and Eliza Blalock and her son-in-law, Charles “Rooster” Gallagher. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Gallagher, Pam Gafnea and Margaret (Tommy) Watkins, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Cade) Collins, Nicole (Brandon) Malone and Jeremy (Courtney) Barnett, her great grandchildren, Brayden and Haven Malone, Mackenzie and Walker Collins, her sister, Charlotte Adams and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for over 55 years. She taught kindergarten and daycare at the church for many years. She was one of the original founders of Huffman Baptist Church Kindergarten in 1959. She was a true angel on earth. The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Tammy Miller and Alacare. Visitation will be Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 11:30 AM until service time at 1 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.

Janice, I am so sorry you lost your mom. She and my mom were such friends, it's hard to believe they are both gone now, as well as Rooster, and my daughter, Bonnie. Some day we will have a great reunion, won't we. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Janice, I was so sorry to see this but I am also glad you had your mom so long. I always felt like I knew her and Pam from us sharing our stories and getting to speak to them at times.
