Elvire Knox Fowler, 92, passed away June 21. Elvire was born in Birmingham and graduated from Phillips High School in 1942. She attended Auburn University. Through the years, she enjoyed a secretarial career; playing in several bridge clubs; watching Auburn football; reading books and newspapers; participating in the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Sumter Chapter; attending Oakmont Presbyterian Church, where she was a charter member; and her family. Elvire is survived by her daughter, Nancy Fowler (Cindy Betz), her grandchildren Jamie, Reid and Erik Larson, Rachel Kichline (Ed) and David Brown; her daughter-in-law Sharon Porter Lanier; and many nieces and nephews and close friends. She is predeceased by her husband Aubrey Theodore Lanier, their son Aubrey Theodore Lanier, Jr.; husband Odie Lee (Dick) Fowler; sisters Marianne Sawyer and Cornelia McGee; and parents Marie Willisson Knox and Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar Knox. Elvire will be remembered for her intelligence, humor, generosity and keen ability to lift others up and compliment them with just the right words. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 24 at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 1817 Patton Chapel Rd., 35226, Hoover, Ala. with graveside services to follow at 3 p.m. at Elmwood Chapel, 600 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., 35211, Birmingham, Ala. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Elvire Fowler to Oakmont Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
