Eva Jo Mathis Manzella

Eva Jo Mathis Manzella (1932-2018) Eva Jo Manzella, age 86, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on July 25, 2018 in Plano, Texas at the home of her loving daughter where she lived with family the last nine months of her life. Jo, daughter of Velma Huddleston Mathis and Farrow “Joe Bill” Mathis, was born on March 23, 1932 in Adamsville, Alabama. A lifelong resident of the Birmingham area, she had friends and family from Graysville to Leeds to Pelham. Jo was an excellent mother who devoted her life to her family. She also worked outside the home to help support her family financially for many years, retiring as credit manager at Long-Lewis Hardware in 1994. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Vincent J. Manzella whom she married in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jarrod Robinson. Jo is survived by one daughter Karen Robinson Mason (David), one son Phillip Robinson (Ty); three grandsons Brian Mason (Abby), Brad Mason, Jamie Robinson (Dana); granddaughter-in-law Stacey Brown; seven great-grandchildren: Austin Robinson, Micaela Robinson, Trent Robinson, Kinsley Robinson, Will Mason, John Mason, Porter Robinson; one brother Wayne Mathis (Margaret), two nieces: Lou Ann White (Jim), Jennifer Dooley (Tom); and Kellye Robinson. Outside of family and work, Jo pursued her faith, attending our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with her husband Vince. After his death, she returned to the Methodist Church for her remaining years. The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Cox for his many years of excellent care and support, as well as many other professionals at Southview Medical Group. Many thanks also to the wonderful friends and employees at the Gardens of Pelham for their loving care; Lakeview Pelham’s 1st United Methodist Church for their visits, gifts and prayers, as well as the “village” of friends and neighbors that supported Jo and her family during these past few years. Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral services to follow immediately afterward at 11:00 a.m. Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama 35211. Interment will follow for family and close friends.
