Faye Williams Gettys, age 84 of Sterrett, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 16, 2017. Born as an only child, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Williams, and her son-in-law, Gene Ogletree. Faye had a kind and loving spirit, was a true southern lady, and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves behind her loving husband of sixty-six years, Parks Edward Gettys, and seven children: Edward Gettys of Paris, Tennessee, Judy Patterson (Carr) of Sterrett, Charles Gettys (Sarah Beth) of Alexander City, Carol Grimes (J.) of Hoover, Cathy Ogletree of Sterrett, Janet Brown (Scott) of Daphne, and Joy Brunson (Brian) of Vestavia Hills. She was affectionately called Granny and Nanny by her (16) grandchildren and (9) great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Faye was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church for over thirty years, and she attended several mission trips involving construction work and ministry to young children. She always looked forward to vacations on the gulf coast, and she especially enjoyed deep sea fishing trips. She also was an avid gardener, and loved working in the yard with all of her beautiful flowers. Her greatest joy, though, was being with her family, especially around the holidays. She will be missed by all her loved ones who rejoice in the truth that she is no longer suffering, and is now at peace with Jesus Christ in heaven. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2017, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
