Obituary of Helene Annette Counts
Helene Annette Counts, 96, went home to be with Jesus her Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was born on June 16, 1926 and was part of the Greatest Generation. She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Cleveland Counts, her mother, Margaret Lykes Counts, her sister Sarah Counts Barrett and her sister Annie Belle Counts. She is survived by her older sister, Mary Jeanette Counts Blackmon, eight loving nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews, 28 great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great- great nephew.Helene graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1944 where she played violin in the school orchestra. She was a graduate of Howard College in 1948 where she was an officer in Phi Mu sorority. Helene worked as an Administrative Assistant at Moore-Handley in Pelham and later at Wesco, a subsidiary of Westinghouse, until she retired in 1988.Helene was a long-time member of Ruhama Baptist Church in East Lake and was a member of First Baptist Church Trussville when she died. She was a resident of Danberry at Inverness. Helene loved music from the Big Band era and rarely missed Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. She was a model family member who assisted and cared for her mother, sister, aunt and uncle in their final days. Over the years she was admired by many in her church and community for her loving and gentle spirit. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 6th at 3:00 PM at Danberry Inverness located at 235 Inverness Center Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35242. Visitation will follow the service.
