Jane and her husband Fitz moved to Hall Avenue in 1950. She was very simple with most of her favorite things taking place within a block of their home. She was a lifelong member of Oakmont United Methodist. Her neighbors were her best friends. But most of her time was spent in the garden with her husband, rocking on the front porch and playing bridge at the Homewood Senior Center. Being the only girl with three brothers, Jane was definitely strong willed and feisty, a trait she took seriously till the very end.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fitz Patrick Douthit; her son, Fitz Roderick “Rick” Douthit, and her three brothers; Howard Stanley Hyde, George W. “Bob” Hyde and William “Bill” Hyde.
She was survived by her granddaughter Kellie Ward (Tommy) of Vestavia Hills, AL.
Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Tuesday October 24, 2023 at 2pm. There will not be a public visitation at the funeral home. We asked those that attend to meet us in front of Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. 35211 by 1:45pm and we will all process down to the gravesite together.
The family is especially grateful to the devoted care and compassion provided to Jane by the team at Columbia Cottages in Mountain Brook over the years.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.johnsridoutselmwoodchapel.com for the Douthit family.
