

Mrs. Jean Brackett Towry passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025 surrounded by her family. Jean was born on November 11, 1942 in Birmingham, AL to the late John and Anna Brackett. She was married on December 25, 1968 to her loving husband George Benton Towry, Jr. They were married for 35 years until George’s death in 2004. Jean had two children, six grandchildren and a great grandson who called her Grammy. She was a true blessing to all who knew her.
She was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and worked for Southern Progress for 23 years until her retirement.
Jean is survived by her children, Tammi (Jon) Elsea and Tim (April) Towry, six grandchildren, Abby (Parker) Hershey, Cole Elsea, Julia Elsea, Anna Towry, Brooks Towry, John Robert Towry, one great grandson, John Michael Hershey, her sister, Margaret Brown, and numerous nephews, nieces and wonderful friends.
Jean loved her family and truly enjoyed taking an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to watch her grandchildren compete in numerous sporting events and other activities.
Our family would like to thank all of the family, friends, neighbors, and wonderful caregivers who loved and cared for Jean.
Family will receive friends and loved ones in the Chapel at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church on June 23, 2025 from 5pm-7pm. There will be a graveside burial service for family only at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org).
