RAY, JERRY ASHCRAFT, age 91 of Birmingham, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of Birmingham. She attended Robinson Elementary School and Woodlawn High School. She attended Auburn University and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She was a member of East Lake United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years. She was a current member of Canterbury United Methodist Church. Her community activities included Meta Aldelphia Literary Club and Friendship Garden Club. She volunteered at Baptist Montclair Hospital. She was known for her love of family and friends. Her devotion continued with her love for all animals, especially her cats. She loved Auburn Football and watching it with her Auburn Family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Fryer Ashcraft and Rubye Naugher Ashcraft; her husband of 50 years, Rufus Ray, Jr.; and son, Robert Craig Ray. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ray Hill (Tim); sister, Patricia Ashcraft Johnson; daughter-in-law, Lee Ray; niece, Ashley Miller Brown; great niece, Caroline Holbrook; and great nephews, Knight Holbrook and Hays Brown. Her family will celebrate her life on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 2-3 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel followed by a graveside service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Human Society of Elmore County or East Lake United Methodist Church.
