Jewelene Looney Wesley passed away peacefully on March 23, 2019 in Trussville, Alabama at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by two loving husbands, John Alvin Looney Sr. and Homer Ashcraft Wesley; brother Wilbur Carr; sisters Hilda Carr, Gladys White, and Julia Woodward. She is survived by her son John A. Looney Jr. (Cynthia); step-sons Gil Wesley of Chico, CA, Homer Bucky Wesley(Marion) of Colorado Springs, Co. granddaughter Allie Looney Lewis (Matthew); and step-grandchildren Devon Wesley-Wheland, Maggie W. Greene, Blair W. Croom, Jonathan Wesley, and Joseph Wesley; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jewelene was from Ackerman, Mississippi before moving to Birmingham, Alabama where she spent the last 76 wonderful years with the people she loved. Jewelene was dedicated to her family and was always involved in all her son’s activities and was a loving and involved Grandmother to Allie. She enjoyed teaching kindergarden at McElwain Baptist Church, serving in the children’s ministry, and was a den mother with the Cub Scouts. She was an executive secretary and retired from Baptist Health Systems. She loved to travel on church trips and enjoyed fellowship with her peers and sisters. Jewelene was an active member of McElwain Baptist Church for over 60 years and enjoyed traveling with church groups, and was participated in the “Loving Touch Ministry” for many years visiting elders. Spending time with her beloved sisters was something she always looked forward to.
Jewelene will be remembered for her kindness, sweet smile, her servant heart, and her abundant love for all children. She loved people and would take every opportunity she could to spend time with friends and family. She never missed a class reunion with high school friends in Ackerman, and never missed a good funeral either. Jewelene will be missed by all as she touched the lives of so many of the people around her with her good-nature and warm spirit.
Jewelene’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mc Elwain Christian Academy, 4445 Montevallo Rd, Birmingham, AL 35213.
Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2019 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the West Chapel at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlor located at 2116 University Blvd, Birmingham, Alabama 35233, to be followed by funeral services at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following services.
