A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Jack Alexander, 90, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away peacefully on December 20, 2012 with his family present. He was born January 27, 1922 in Toronto, Canada, and resided in Vestavia Hills, Alabama for the past 65 years, having moved from Los Angeles, California in 1947. He graduated from Manual Arts High School and attended Sewanee. Jack was in the US Navy from 1942-1946 and received an Honorable Discharge. Jack was President and Chairman of the Board of City National Bank and Executive VP of Exchange Security Bank. He served as President of Vestavia Hills Board of Education, President of the American Institute of Banking, Board Member of the Birmingham Federal Reserve Bank, President of Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board, Alabama State Chairman - US Olympics, and Board Member of Harris-Robinson Construction Company. He was a longtime member of Vestavia Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mary S Alexander of Birmingham; daughters Nancy Alexander Putman (Jon) of Atlanta, Sue Alexander Meadows (Dan) of Gardendale, Deborah Alexander Hendrix (Ben) of Birmingham, Virginia Alexander Campbell (Jon) of Vestavia Hills, Lee Ann Harris (Jim) of Birmingham; son John Cary Alexander of Birmingham; grandsons Jonathan Putman, Daniel, Justin, Joshua, and Isaac Meadows, Brad Hendrix, Jon Mark, Zachary, Caleb, and Nate Campbell; granddaughters Elizabeth (Putman) Harper, Amanda (Hendrix) Fleming, Rachel (Meadows) Bloom, Erin, Alexandra, Anastasia Meadows; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Virginia Thomas Alexander, parents John and Elsie Truman Alexander and grandson Benjamin Putman. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 12pm at Elmwood Chapel with visitation beginning at 11am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
