Pat Brandon passed away on June 13, 2019, having lived a full, rich, and productive life. She was predeceased by her parents, Marie Owens Alexander and Richard Lincoln Alexander; her sister Louise Alexander Crocker; and four brothers: Richard L. Alexander, Jr., Owens Fitzgerald Alexander, William Maxwell Alexander, and Melton Lee Alexander.
Survivors include sons Mark Edward Brandon (Kathryn) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Keith Fitzgerald Brandon (Dawn) of Lilburn, Georgia; a daughter Laura Brandon Richards (Steve) of Pelham, Alabama; grandchildren Rachel Brandon of Bethesda, Maryland, Evan Brandon of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Joe Brandon (Chelsea) of Woodstock, Georgia, Lindsay Brandon of Clarkston, Georgia, Thomas “Alex” Brandon of Newnan, Georgia, Kristen Bridges (Matt) of Montevallo, Alabama, Serah Thrasher (Brian) of Pelham, Alabama, Leah Goebel (Dallas) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Emily Burchfield (Beau) of Hoover, Alabama; ten great-grandchildren; and scores of nieces and nephews.
Pat attended Woodlawn High School, where she was elected vice president of the student body and was inducted into the National Honor Society, the Euclidean Honor Society, and the Girls Glee Club, and was on the staffs of both the Tatler and Woodlog.
An honor graduate of Alabama College for Women (now the University of Montevallo) in Montevallo, Alabama, she was inducted into five honor societies and was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. A member of the collegiate debate team, she participated in tournaments throughout the United States. She was named the first manager of the college’s radio station (WRSD) and was the recipient of the AAUW Award as a senior.
Pat spent much of her adult life as a volunteer and professional staff member of the Girl Scouts of America. She served as Executive Director of the Cahaba Girl Scout Council in Alabama and as President and Executive Director of the Tarheel Triad Girl Scout Council in North Carolina. She was awarded the two highest honors in Girl Scouting – the Thanks Badge and the Thanks Badge II.
