Donald Ray Denniston Jr. 64, of Bloomington went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born September 9, 1954 to Donald Ray and Gwendolyne (Henson) Denniston Sr. in Bloomington, IL. He married the love of his life, Kathleen “Jo” Thompson, on March 8, 1975 in Pekin, Il. They were married for 44 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jo, son, Adam (Nicole) Denniston of Charlottesville, VA; two granddaughters Lola and Nova Denniston; two sisters Donita Gillenwater of Bloomington, Karen (DeWayne) White of Quincy, IL; niece Christal (Rob) Carter of Quincy, IL, nephew Nathan White of Palmyra, MO.
He set a Godly example to all. His love for the Lord and deep love for his family was clearly evident. He was crazy about his two beautiful granddaughters.
Don spent many hours volunteering for his church by serving in various leadership positions. One of his strong passions was missions. This included leading missions trips in both the United States and abroad. He was the founder of Hope for the Homeless Veterans.
We will greatly miss him but look forward to the day we will one day get to see him again!

Donald Ray Denniston Jr.
June 30, 2019
Mark's and my hearts were saddened when we read about beloved Donald Denniston passing away. Our 'loss' on this earth, but very much heaven's gain.
Don was a precious geniune Godly, stable, and secure in Jesus, and such a sweet man.
A great example for others to follow.
Two hearts that connected and became ONE in that connection between Jo and Don was always evident throughout their years together.
Words will NEVER be enough to help that 'loss' to comfort at this time of sorrow and grieving. Only the comfort our our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the WORD of God can comfort that hole within one's heart beat.
My tears fall remembering Don and Jo and the times if Mark and I would run into Don, or I thought of Don and Jo, my heart would always feel such gentleness and think of such a kind man of heart... This for me is who Don and also Jo are in our Lord Jesus.
2 Corinthians 4:10
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.
Jo, Our hearts are with you as Jesus walks you through this valley of death and seperation of your one flesh and your heartbeat connected with Don.
Life is so short on this earth, VAPOR....
