She was born February 29, 1928 in LaGrange, Missouri to Earl O and Louise E Turner of Toulon.
Surviving are her daughters, Christine Lavelle of Bloomington and Andrea Owens of Kansas City Mo; three grandchildren, Michael (Susan) Owens of Pembroke Pines Fl, John (Holly) Owens of Deerfield Beach Fl, and Erin (Christian) Liljequist of Kansas City Mo; and her great-granddaughters, Alexandra, Peyton and Olivia Owens, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John B. Lavelle, her sons Mark and Frederick, her parents, her brother Bob (Louise) Turner and her sister Sally (Jim) Clayton.
Sue graduated high school in Toulon in 1946 and NIU in DeKalb in 1966 with a degree in education. She taught fifth and sixth grade in Clinton and Henry, and junior high school language arts students in Henry for thirteen years, She also worked as a Neponset correspondent to the Star Courier.
Sue was an amateur genealogist and historian for her family, compiling several large binders full of family history, stories and pictures. She and her husband enjoyed travelling to court houses and historical society chapters in several states. She was a DAR member.
Sue and John made a beautiful home wherever they lived together, which became a gathering place for holidays and other special family occasions.
