

Charles graduated from Montclair High School, received a BS from Bucknell University and a PhD. From Rutgers University. In his professional life, he worked as a biochemist for Wyeth, Temple University, and St. Christopher’s Hospital. He was a champion cyclist on modern bikes and historic high-wheel bikes. He was a founding member of the Wheelman Society. Charles was a top-notch birder, an avid fisherman, a gardener, and an overall skilled outdoorsman and lover of nature. He was always active in local groups working to save open space and natural areas.
Charles is survived by his wife, Karen Ann Knudsen and their daughter, Carla (Joel) Ruth Hetzel; grandchildren, Acheson Jack Neigh and Gregor Joel Neigh; his two daughters Lisa West and Lauren Melroy from his first wife, Nancy; his grandchildren Joshua (Jennifer) Waller; Briana Melroy; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Waller, Harrison Waller, Isabella Troup.
There will be a virtual memorial posted and a celebration of Chuck’s life when it is safe for families to gather together.
