Viola E Powers

Viola “Vi” E. Harris Powers, 99 of Blackwater, Missouri passed away on November 21st at Cooper County Hospital. Graveside services will be under the direction of William Wood Funeral Home of Boonville, and will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery. She was born on November 3, 1916 near Prairie Home. She was the daughter of Edmund Price Harris and Cora Banes Harris. On October 29, 1960, Vi married Homer Ellsworth Powers of Blackwater in Sedalia. He preceded her in death on August 23, 2005. Vi attended Felder School. Upon graduation she remained at home to help on the farm and later take care of her parents. After her marriage, Vi and her husband moved to their farm near Blackwater and she loved the farm life. She was a charter member of the Blackwater Senior Center. Vi enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends on the phone and reading. She will be missed by her many friends and neighbors. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Stella Fritz, Eula Craig, Bertha Stretz, Elaine Harland and brothers, Claude Roy, Fred, Floyd and Forrest Harris and her niece, Martha Stoddard. Survivors include her brother-in-law, Jerry Harlan, of Boonville, her niece, Jean Morris of Sedalia, and nephew, Kenny Harris of Lincoln, MO as well as other great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Howard County Home Health and Hospice in Fayette, MO.
