Robert Charles Uebelacker Jr.

September 15, 1948February 15, 2013

Robert C. Uebelacker, Jr (Bob) (Ube) passed away after major surgery in Boston. Bob, 64, was born in Duluth Minnesota to Robert Sr. and Dorothy Uebelacker. Bob graduated from Duluth's Denfeld High School in 1966. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and obtained advanced degrees through the University of Northern Colorado, and University of Maryland, College Park. He entered the United States Air Force upon graduation and served on active duty for twenty-two years.

A devoted husband, beloved son and brother, patriot, friend, and mentor, Bob was a great American whose life was spent in the service of our nation. Lt Col (ret.) Uebelacker first served his nation with distinction as a B-52 pilot and then as an U-2 pilot before continuing on to serve as a civil servant. For the last four years, prior to his final flight on February 15, 2013, Bob served with distinction as a Systems Engineer in the Space Development & Test Directorate.

Quiet, soft spoken and unassuming, Bob was an engineer by degree and a pilot by profession. He loved flight operations and space exploration. His work with the Space Development and Test Directorate at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, was a capstone assignment that brought him great satisfaction. He enjoyed sharing war stories and mentoring the young officers. His hobbies included scuba diving and many adventures around the world with his wife Sally.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sally, brother Gary, and sisters Diane, Rita, and Karen. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Cookie, Peggy, Susan, brother-in-law Joe as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends around the world.

The service for Bob Uebelacker is at 3 p.m. March 8, 2013 at the Kirtland AFB Base Chapel, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sally. Marshall shared the news with me. Helen and I are so saddened by the many difficult health issues Bob has had to endure. But to his credit and yours, we also appreciate your thoughts on what a great life you have had together, and that you have lived it to the fullest. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Our sincerest sympathy.

Dear Sally: I heard the news from Joan. In case we don't connect by phone, I want you to know how deeply saddened I am at your loss.

Bob was such a sweet, loving, decent man. We all appreciated him so much, for his integrity and his humor. His smile lit up the room.

I am just so very sad, and wish you great strength and mindfulness in the coming days. There are few things so difficult.

I love you so much. More than you perhaps know.

I am praying for you.

Most sincerely,

Mariette Coolidge
