Pat was born on November 2, 1933, at Boulder Community Hospital; she was a true Colorado native! She grew up on a farm outside of Mason City, Iowa, and graduated from Plymouth High School. She attended Valparaiso University in Indiana for two years.
As a widow with two young sons, Pat met Joe Hanket in August of 1960; they were married just three months later on November 5, in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1962. Pat was employed as a secretary at Bank One, served as a secretary at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, and worked for a short time at Rocky Flats. Additionally, she worked at the Boulder Police Department as the patrol division secretary and as training coordinator, where she managed the Citizens’ Academy and officer training until her retirement in 2004.
Pat loved her family and friends, reading, music, and baking. She was interested in genealogy and researched her family history. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims. She served in a number of leadership roles in these organizations.
Pat is survived by her husband, Joseph M Hanket; her son, Dirk Hanket; her son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Sue Hanket; her daughter and son-in law, Tricia and Howard McCarthy with their son and daughter-in law, Justin and Rachel, and their daughter, Manda; and her daughter, Kylie Matthews.
