Beatrice A. “Bea” DeLacy, 79, of Sandwich, Massachusetts, passed away
on October 7, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Yonkers, New York to the late Stephen and Beatrice (Mrlik) Baumgartner,
Bea grew up in the Bronx and graduated from The Bronx High School of Science. She
earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics from Hunter College, New York.
(Subsequently renamed Lehman College). She began her long teaching career in
New York City and also taught in Connecticut before joining the faculty of Sandwich
High School in 1975, where she taught until her retirement in 2001. She also taught
part time at Cape Cod Community College for many years. One thing is for certain
about Bea's career; she had an unwavering passion for being a teacher and found
great joy in educating the generations of students who passed through her
classroom.
Bea was a long-time devoted member of West Parish Church in Barnstable, MA.
Singing was her joy and her beautiful voice graced the soprano section of the choir
for decades.
Bea was an avid baker, an accomplished seamstress and quilter and an active
member of Sandwich Stitchers and Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod. She also
volunteered her time with the Sandwich Food Pantry and was a member of the
P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Bea was the beloved wife of the late J. Wesley DeLacy, former Executive Director of
the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.
She is survived by her son, Ross DeLacy and her daughter-in-law, Mary of St Albans,
VT; her daughter, Lynn DeLacy of Pasadena, CA; her grandsons, James DeLacy and
John DeLacy of St Albans, VT; her granddaughter, Nikki Boissonneault of Westport,
MA; her brother, Stephen Baumgartner and his wife Lois of Foster City, CA; and her
sister-in-law, Yvonne Beatty of Bourne, MA.
Burial service will be private at the Sandwich Town Cemetery, Sandwich, MA. A
public celebration of life gathering will be held at The Pilot House, 14 Gallo Road,
Sandwich, MA on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 2-4pm. All who knew Bea are
invited to stop by this informal gathering to enjoy memories of Bea, light
refreshments and conversation.
