Dorothy Elizabeth (Quinn) Bourne of Falmouth, MA passed away peacefully Friday, October 30, 2020. Dorothy was born January 20, 1928 in Somerville, MA to Thomas J. Quinn and Ruth (Nye) Quinn and grew up in Marion, MA. She attended schools in Marion and graduated from Wareham High School in 1946.
After graduation, Dorothy went to work at the office of Doctor Raymond Baxter of Marion. The Quinn home was located adjacent to Tabor Academy. Being the youngest of three sisters and Ruth always at home, 298 Front Street became a popular spot and the only private home considered on limits for Tabor boys. Dorothy’s sister introduced her to her future husband Richard A. Bourne. They set up home in Hyannis and Dorothy settled in as a homemaker and mother while helping Richard build his auction business.
Dottie, to everyone she met, excelled as a fabulous cook. Thanksgivings were legendary and her Christmas Eve gatherings were not to be missed. Her entertaining skills also helped build the auction business that bore Richard’s name from a local enterprise to an internationally known auction house. Dottie’s favorite events were the annual decoy auctions held every July where collectors from across the country would
attend.
But perhaps most of all, Dottie was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and great
granddaughter. From Christmas mornings to shell and minnow gathering at the beach to Easter egg hunts in her condo, nothing was more important to her than being with her kids.
Dottie was a past member of the Hyannis Yacht Club, The Hyannisport Club, and the Beach Club as well a lifelong member of The Sewing Club, a gathering of friends that did far more socializing than sewing.
Dorothy was predeceased by her former husband Richard and leaves behind her two sons, Thomas C. Bourne and his wife Patricia (Noradki) Bourne and William E. Bourne.and his partner Roxie Zurbrigen, four grandchildren Tyler, Paige, Ethan, and Kendra, and one great granddaughter Layla. Burial will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Cape Cod Healthcare or the charity of one’s choice.
