Ernest Henry Forni Jr.

February 18, 1932November 29, 2019

Ernest Henry Forni Jr. passed away November 28, 2019 at his home in W Yarmouth. Ernie was raised and lived his whole life in the town of Bourne. After high school he joined the Army, serving during the Korean War in the 187th Airborne Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Rakkasans). When he returned from Korea he joined the Town of Bourne Fire Department, retiring after 32 years of service. He continued his work as a firefighter in retirement with the State Forest Fire Service.

Ernie loved children and sports. He served as an umpire and Commissioner of Youth Baseball for the Town of Bourne during the 70’s. He enjoyed golf, traveling, was the Champion of the ongoing family cribbage tournament due to his sagacious pegging, cut a mean rug on the dance floor, and never met a chocolate bar he didn’t like. His mischievous laugh lit up a room. He loved his family and his friends and he will be missed.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 64 years Gail Forni and his children and their spouses: Ernie Forni III and Sharon, John Forni, Anne Grady and Joe, Mary Silvia and Gilbert, Ellen Taylor and Scott, and Paul Forni and Danielle. He was predeceased by his son William Forni. He loved his 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren very much.

There will be visitation Thursday December 5th from 10:00-10:45am at 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA, Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at the National Cemetery at 11:15am.

Uncle Junie. I can’t tell you how much I will miss our regular phone calls back-and-forth to banter with each other make fun of each other and laugh. I will especially miss Thanksgiving, it will never be the same for me again . Who will I be able to call and tell to eat crow when Bourne loses the football game ? Also, I will miss your call when Wareham loses! This year would’ve been a big year for you as Wareham took a huge loss . Love you and will miss you dearly until we meet again. ❤️

To everyone in the Forni Family,

I don't think there are enough nice words anyone can say about
Ernie Forni. He was on of the nicest men I have ever met. Always happy and always something nice to say. I know he will be sorely missed. I hope you will find some comfort in all your memories of him. God Bless you all.

Iconic Sagamore Beach personality! Loved by all. Some of my best memories of growing up include Mr Forni umpiring on the baseball field. Great all around role model for us growing up. God Bless his family.

Dearest Uncle,

I have so many fond memories growing up. You could always keep us all laughing with your great sense of humor. I am so glad we brought Dad and Mom to see you. That was a great visit, even though you were probably not feeling all that well. You would never know it. I loved watching you and Dad talk about your childhood and joke around. My only regret was I didn’t take a picture of the two of you. You will be deeply missed. Love you! Susan
