Gloria Cecile Hersey 89 of Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2019 at Falmouth with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold George Hersey. Born 4/18/1930 in Burlington, Vermont, she was the daughter of Leonard J. and Dorothy B. (Willard) Hunter. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Hersey and wife Penny of Mashpee, MA, Michael Hersey of Orange, TX, and Warner Hersey and wife Christine of Longmont, CO. Also surviving a brother Leighton Hunter and wife Susan of Lakeland, FL, sister Peggy Gilbert and husband Gary of Fairfax, VT, brother Steven Hunter of Highgate VT, and stepmother Marjorie Hunter of St Albans, VT. Gloria was blessed with seven grandchildren: Stephanie Hersey and her husband Jason, Lynnette DiFloures and her husband Tony, Mike Hersey, Jennifer Hersey, Jonathan Hersey and his wife Cara, Lindsey Hersey, and Jordan Hersey and his wife Katie, as well as, ten great grandchildren; Dylan and Brianna Blackburn, Jackson and Ryan DiFloures, Eva, Julian, Adrian, Leighton, and Henri Hersey, and Wesley Hersey. She was also blessed with three nephews: Frederick and his wife Jamie Hunter, Jeffrey Gilbert and his wife Tiffany, James Gilbert and his wife Katie, her niece: Elizabeth Hunter, her four cousins: David Willard, Bert Willard, James Willard, and John Willard, and her dear friends.
Gloria grew up in Vermont and New Hampshire. She met her husband Harold in Plainfield VT where they raised three sons. Family was her primary focus throughout her life. She worked helping in the family service station business and worked as a sales associate for Magram’s, Birdine’s, and JC Penney’s. She was awarded top sales associate on many occasions. She enjoyed playing the organ, tennis with her friends, knitting, reading, bingo and family get-togethers. Later in life Harold and she moved to Venice Florida to be near her brother Leighton. After Harold’s death she moved to Falmouth MA to be near her son.
The family would like to especially thank all the staff and friends at JML Care Center in Falmouth for their excellent care and support. They were like a second family to her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020 with reception following mass at Christ the King in Mashpee, MA. A grave-side and memorial service will be held in Plainfield, VT later in the summer of 2020.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in gratitude to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in memory of Gloria Hersey to support Dr. Michael Givertz Research and Education Fund.
