Ingrid Vasilkovs, of Sarasota Florida passed away Tuesday January 21, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born November 16, 1930 in Riga, Latvia. As a teenager Ingrid survived the Soviet occupation, the German occupation, and the Soviet reoccupation of Latvia during World War II, ending up in a Displaced Persons camp in Lohr am Main, Germany at the end of the conflict. She and her family then immigrated to the United States, where she attended Duke University and became a Naturalized Citizen. She held a deep love for both her native and adopted countries. Ingrid was a voracious reader, inventive cook, enjoyed watching tournament tennis, and had a talent for languages, being fluent in Latvian, German, Russian and English. She dearly loved her weekly bridge games with close friends, and was an excellent player. She is survived by her sons and a grandson, and their spouses; James and Phillis Jefferson of Katy, TX, David and Kris Jefferson of Houston, TX, and grandson James and Rachel Jefferson of Solvang, CA. Ingrid is preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Vasilkovs, and her beloved Labrador Sasha. At her request, no service will be held. Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with final care.
