Carl was the first child & son of Carl Wheeless, Jr & Sharlene Burns Blomquist, born on February 5, 1960 in Vicksburg, MS. As his grandfather’s namesake, he was greatly beloved by his paternal grandparents, Carl Wheeless & Bessie Cannada Blomquist, of Port Gibson, MS. He had a very close relationship with his maternal grandparents, Emil Sweet & Thelma Heidelberg Burns, especially his “Grannyma” who always called him “Pete”.
Carl graduated from Brandon High School in 1978, served in the United States Air Force, based in CA, and maintained long-distance friendships with those he served with. He attended USF, graduated from HCC with an Electronics degree and worked in telecommunications sales & repair for many years. A few years ago, he found his second calling, working as a Union man at Tampa Armature Works (TAW), installing and repairing generators all over the South. Many of his co-workers there became close friends.
Carl loved to work on his family’s farm, bale hay, ride the tractor, dove and deer hunt, repair cars, drive his Corvette, do service work for those in need, To-Do Lists, help his Daddy and watch Hallmark movies with Lori. His annual trip to the family homestead in Pushmataha, AL was important to him and he looked forward to it every year, building his special deer stand, which he shared with his nephew John, and later, grandson Jayden.
This was the happiest time of his life and he treasured every single day. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be married to and loved by Lori, and he said so often. Carl & Lori had a strong Christian faith together and were long-time members at New Hope United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 6th, at 1 pm at New Hope Methodist Church in Brandon, FL. Family & friends are encouraged to share stories at a reception to be held following the service.
