Jo Anne was born to Rentha Mae and Ira Ethan Hudson in Sandpoint, Idaho on May 6, 1937. She was the youngest of eleven children. Her siblings were Orba, Norman, Alva, Garnett, Roy, Vance, Irene, Maxine, and Mary Jean. She is survived by her sister, Lilah. She spent her childhood in Bremerton, Vancouver, and Wapato, Washington and Hood River, Oregon. Jo Anne married Waymon F. Hubbard on June 21, 1969. They had two children - Shana and Eric. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren - Rachel, Trevor, Ryan, Celia, and Colson.
Jo Anne was a smart, resourceful, and determined young woman. She worked for two years in order to earn and save enough money to be the first person in her family to go to college. Education was extremely important to her. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a major in English and a minor in Home Economics from Western Washington University. She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Education from United States International University and her Administrative Certification from Seattle Pacific University. She spent over thirty years in the field of education. She taught in Washington, Germany, Hawaii, Wisconsin, California, and she finished out her teaching career at Fairview Junior High in the Central Kitsap School District. Jo Anne instilled a love of learning and education in her children and grandchildren.
She was passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures and enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. Jo Anne made everyone feel important and happy when they were around her. She had an unending amount of patience, compassion, selflessness, and generosity. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Miller Woodlawns Funeral Home, 5505 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA, with Pastor Rick Glomstad officiating. The viewing will begin at 12:00 with the service starting at 1:00.
